FROM MUD

Beneath the surface of the earth, minerals, sediments, plant and animal life join together to create the foundation of clay. Where streams and rivers once poured over Earth’s surface. Their water pressure pulverizes the remains of flora, fauna, and minerals, creating a muddy mass… called clay. Meanwhile, in swollen, grey clouds, rain succumbs to the pressure of gravity, where it falls to the Earth, reaching its surface. Here, the Earth’s skin quenches itself, drinking the water deep into its soil - becoming mud. FROM MUD sprouts some of the most mysterious and beautiful creatures - flowers.

This collection is inspired by the natural curves created through the manipulation of clay and the delicate beauty of flowers. Both of which come FROM MUD.

Clay has the power to be moulded into various structures - some for their beauty, and others for their purpose.

Different pots for flowers, different cups and bowls, difference techniques, different processes.

Flowers - flowers have been found to increase serotonin and decrease stress in their viewers. They have genetically evolved to attract various organisms ranging from bees to humans. Some flowers even attract prey - such as the pitcher plant, which consumes small rodents and frogs when they fall into its dazzling cup. And pottery - the vessel in which humans can capture the life of a flower in their own homes and marvel at its beauty.

This collection moulds and wraps around the body through curves and drapes. Much like a vase or a pot serves a flower.

Like ceramics - the design’s beauty can come from the structure itself or by various techniques such as embroidery.

Like moulding clay, there are many ways in

which a fabric can be manipulated to create various forms.

A piece of pottery’s beginning is from a flat slap of clay, and a flower’s beginning is from the surface of Earth. From there, they are moulded and grow into beautiful, dimensional structures, which came FROM MUD.

A garment’s beginning is a flat stretch of fabric… this collection is to see where it can go.
